Why.

8th September 2018

Did you wonder where I had gone, did you miss me last week and did you think I had ended this blog & recount of my life so suddenly and with no goodbye. No, not now and not ever.....!! I just needed some space to myself to ask that age old question of why. Why me, why should I, why, why why, but I always end it by saying "why not"and then for some weird reason that heart felt and deep sense of loneliness goes away but the gap is not filled, but the space left behind is now resolved with the feeling that somewhere out there is someone just like me who feels the same empty feeling until we join hands and fulfill our dream together.

It's not unusual for me to feel a sense of solitary moment in my world and I usually try to turn those moments into a positive thought by filling that space with enjoyment to share with others far away by taking some photographs and writing a few words of encouragement to help us both to see that after all of our efforts, it will be worth it in the end. Today, I took some time out to visit one of the famous sites of which was used in both the movie and the original test site for the 617 Squadron the hero's of world war two and known throughout the world as the "Dam Busters". This is a picture of Ladybower Dam which is the area where the aircraft flew over after practice bombing on the upper reservoir of "Derwent" but as they all follow the lines of the valley, they would pretend to drop there bombs against the wall at Derwent and then fly across Ladybower out through the valley. Both lakes are rather low today due to the lack of rain but are a spectacular place to absorb some true history. It was these brave hero's that helped to make our great nation great and stand out among so many with such pride.

To your left, you will see a view of the Derwent wall to which was so like the ones to which would be attacked by the RAF in Germany and as one might imagine, they truly are a thick and strong wall to breach but thank's to "Sir Barnes Wallace" & the 617 squadron and the will of the British people who never quit, this impossible task was overcome through pure ingenuity and skill. The tragic aftermath of the attack was to slow down the building of weapons in Germany by flooding the valley where the steel and iron producing factories were based. Sadly there was many lives lost and to which many more would have been lost had this brave and top secret task not been completed with 100% success. I am a great defender of our nation and will stand up for what I believe to be right but I also believe that when war is inevitable, it confirms that something so bad went wrong somewhere and this in my world always points to politicians and rarely people but sadly the people are the ones who suffer and never the politicians and that seems so morally unfair.

To the right hand side of the page it one of the wall towers to which looks like a castle but emulated the look of the German dam so well and was a focal point for to be used as a target and pointer for the 617 squadron and it's crew members. You can imagine the depth of water and pure energy & force that was created when the wall broke and the millions of gallons of water came rushing through at both high speed and controllable flow to which nothing that got in it's way was going to survive such a force of energy. It was a clever strategy and one that delayed the production of steel for weapons on a grand scale.  I hope and pray that the world learns from these events and the lesson that I hope all have learned is that it should never happen again but history has provided enough evidence to suggest it will always happen again and we learned nothing from this total waste of life except that there are no real winners in the end as everyone is a looser in war to some degree.
"God Bless Those Brave Hero's"

20th September 2018

I can't begin to explain what a stressful week I have had and just how difficult the days and nights have really been, the stress levels went through the roof and all because of a bit of wind..........Ok, a lot of wind but hey ho...!!. I will explain. My partner who is a Doctor and is in Manila and as you may well have seen on the news, the "Super Typhoon" was not only heading there but after I provided satellite images showing the pathway of this almighty thing, my partner took my advice and headed North and out of the direct pathway of this deadly storm. However, after a 6 hour drive north, within a matter of hours, the storm changed direction and headed north as if to follow my partner. Eventually, there was no turning back and the best on offer was a secure building in which to sit out the storm that lasted 2 days and for us, 3 nights. With no power or means of communication, it was like a living hell waiting to hear any news. I am now delighted to say that I eventually got the news and confirmation that despite being in the direct line of the eye of the storm, they survived and whilst shook up and obviously distressed. "My Prayers were at least answered"  I thank God that they were. After such a pressure moment, all I could do was to find some way of calming down and as such, I took the camera and went out in search of peace and quiet.

As autumn is now officially here in the UK, the best offerings in life to take pictures of are normally the ones we cannot control and to that end, nature provides us with all the gifts of life all wrapped up in one and the burst of colour changes every day from not to winter and as you will see by the picture to the left, the trees are now slowly changing colour in preparation for what is to come. Here is a very typical view of a country road in England with it's natural archway created by a line of beach trees that have grown over the road and formed this beautiful and natural view of a road that I always call the road to nowhere because it just seems to dis-appear into the distance. I have to confess at this point that you have to get up rather early to capture it this quiet as it is used very frequently by traffic seeking a short cut and to find it this quiet is a very rare event. Whilst I was getting set up to take these pictures I kept hearing a click and something like stones being thrown and dropping close to me, it took me a while before I realised it was beach nut's dropping from the tree and as they are quite hard, they were bouncing from the road with quite an impact and thud. I truly love nature, it is always full of surprises.

To the right is a view across the grounds of Cannon Hall which is a favorite of mine to capture colours of nature and trees are a great hunting ground for just that. Cannon Hall is famed for it's variety of trees and lush vegetation and when the timing is right and the light is in my favor, it can be a goldmine of images. I always feel I am blessed to be part of this great country and all that it provides as a true spectacle of beauty that for the most part is totally free to enjoy.

To the right is a selection of trees that for the most part have not started to change colour but I am very aware that in 3-4 weeks time, they will be a golden brown and see of colour to which will change the whole perspective in such a way that one might be forgiven for thinking they have been changes by an artist of some kind. However, it is not the case as it is the sugar in the leaves that is affected by the change of temperature and lack of light that starts the process of change and thus we have autumn. For me (Peter Hulbert) it is like a gift from God and there is no other season like it for the changes of colour.
For those who are wandering just what is growing in the tree, they are a type of crab apple of a type I have never seen before which are called red apples and when you bite into them, they are extremely sweet and as the gardener who explained them to me said, they truly were red all the way through. The tree was like a sea of red as it clearly had been a bumber crop for this tree and it's fruit. I'm not sure what you do with red apples except to eat them and as such I had 3 just to say that I had been there and tried the fruit from the big apple tree and lived to tell the story.

25th September 2018

Here on the right is a wonderful place to take a short walk through a serenade of trees that line the side of the walkway in such splendor as if they were soldiers on parade and after the inspection of the guard, you are them met by the front view of the beautiful Cannon Hall that looks out and across the valley with unspoiled views to the south. Cannon Hall is in fact a museum of military artifacts from the Crimea and is well worth a visit, if for no other reason but to enjoy the Edwardian building and it's features. I shall be returning back to this location in about 4-6 weeks time, to capture the changes in colour that is created as autumn moves closer toward winter and the changes in temperature take it's hold and start to bring the year end closer and closer, ready for it's final chapter of winter when all is still and quiet. For myself "Peter Hulbert" it is a moment to savoir and is a gift from the gods in which to endure and appreciate for all it's glory.

1st October 2018

How quickly the year flies by and every time I seem to blink, another month has flashed by and where on earth did the time go. So, my month was at best a drama of excitement and overshadowed with high's of fear for others outside of my control, not least of which was my Partner being caught up in the "Super Typhoon" in Manila which despite being 3 days of storm, it broke all the records for it's strength and ferocity and the devastation that it created was nothing short of pure fear & havoc. Much of the rest on September was rather a blur although I did visit a few pub launches and opening events as well as focusing much of my time on my precious "B" who needed some help to get some DIY at home sorted and her partner apparently can't do it.........or anything by all accounts...!! He does have lot's to say about others though and always in an offensive way. I suspect that whilst he critisises them to me, he critisises me to them. The golden rule is that a wise man says nothing and a fool will always speak loudest.

For myself "Peter Hulbert" I have little respect for people who try so hard to undermine others in order to make themselves look and sound so good. I prefer to let "Karma" do it's work and watch people like that dig a hole so deep and forget to take the ladder with them. The politicians are all stabbing themselves in the back and shouting "Vote For Me" as they always do while they sell us one story and deliver another entirely different one for some reason. This appears to be the fashion and method that is repeated around the globe today, often the loudest voice in the UK is "Tax The Rich & Give To The Poor"or "Everything Is Free" which one would have to be deluded to believe such nonsense. For the lost in the Wilderness Party, it's total disrespect of the referendum and cancel the result which despite anything, is a slap in the face to all supporters of Democracy and voters who won the vote and to that end, there silence and lack of recognition is well deserved in my eyes. I have little if any respect for people who show no respect for the result when it was not the result that they wanted. The whole point about democracy is that we sometimes win and sometimes loos but ultimately, it removes a dictatorship and to that end, no matter whether you got the result you wanted or not, you should simply accept and respect the outcome.
