Who's Tricking & Who's Treating

26th October 2018

Almost at the end of October and we all know whats just around the corner of crazy and it's that madness time when for some weird reason, the kids decide that frightening and intimidating people for treats is totally acceptable. Back in my day, it was called mugging, today it is totally acceptable for some weird reason.

Here in the UK, we have a whole range of celebrations coming up that gives us all an excuse to go crazy for no apparent reason. It starts with "Halloween" or "Trick or Treat" which seams to have it's origins from the USA and as we love our American friends, family and colleagues, we embrace it and accept it for some weird reason. Our next big one is the 5th November which for the British is Bonfire Night and we celebrate Guy Fawkes who tried to blow up Parliament and for whatever reason, we celebrate that event and yet today we fight terror in every way. I suppose that Bonfire night is seen as more of a commercial aspect and not taken serious as it was way back in history and to that end I get it but in truth, I hate all the fireworks and nonsense as there are so many injuries and pets that suffer from it all and to myself "Peter Hulbert" I see the negative side a bit clearer than the positive side in this instance. However, I am not here to tell others how to enjoy or spend there time, if they wish to do it, good for them.

To the right of this page, you will see a view that is always so special at this time of year and is a place quite close to where I live. It is made even more special at this time of year by the wonderful colour's of autumn in the background and whilst it is the first step toward winter, it is also the most colourful time in the UK and the explosion of colour is simply amazing. I always call this archway "The Gates Of Heaven".

I was out taking some pictures this evening and trying to capture Uranus as it is visible to the naked eye right now but sadly even with my equipment etc, I am unable to take anything more than a Pink Spot on my screen and to be honest, it could be anything and as such I turned my attention to something more reliable to capture which is the good old Moon and as it is easier to recognise and we are more familiar with it, I thought it best to keep it simple and just go for it. I am reliably informed that for the most of October, we can see Uranus from earth and with no special aids or skills. Personally speaking, I saw it much clearer in the bedroom mirror but that is another story and gave me back ache trying to zoom in. I do find the moon intriguing in so many ways and can understand why it affects people moods and emotions in so many ways that humans have still yet to discover.
